HOME | MLA | Copyright for music librariansAbout Us
The Guide is sponsored by the Legislation Committee of the Music Library Association. In 2000 the MLA Legislative Committee determined that the Guide should be updated. At that time preliminary work began, both on the interface and on content.

It was decided in the Fall of 2001 to solicit participation from a larger group in order to provide opportunities for MLA members to participate, to take advantage of expertise outside of the Legislative Committee, and to have more heads and hands working.

The Revision subcommittee was formed at that time and finished the first pass in April of 2002. The new url was announced in May of that year.

For more information see "How we work" for documents and decisions made during revisions.

Boxes and Arrows

Boxes and ArrowsBoxes and Arrows is firmly devoted to the practice, innovation, and discussion of graphic design, interaction design and information architecture, large and small. Since 2001, it’s been a peer-written journal promoting contributors who want to provoke thinking, push limits, and teach a few things along the way.

If you’re interested in improving the way information architecture is done, if you find yourself sparking provocative conversation on interaction design topics in your spare time, and if you go out of your way to help everyone in your office think differently about everything from the design process to software, we want to work with you.

Automatic Classification Research [OCLC - Projects]

Automatic Classification Research [OCLC - Projects]: "Automatic Classification Research at OCLC
OCLC enlists the cooperation of the world's libraries to make the written record of humankind's cultural heritage more accessible through electronic media. Part of this goal can be accomplished through the application of the principles of knowledge organization. We believe that cultural artifacts are effectively lost unless they are indexed, cataloged and classified.
Accordingly, OCLC has developed products, sponsored research projects, and encouraged the participation in international standards communities whose outcome has been improved library classification schemes, cataloging productivity tools, and new proposals for the creation and maintenance of metadata. Though cataloging and classification requires expert intellectual effort, we recognize that at least some of the work must be automated if we hope to keep pace with cultural change."
